How Support Groups and Group Therapy Works

Individual therapy can be intimidating to those first dipping their toes into this world. Depending on your reasons, group therapy or a support group may be more comfortable to start.

Group Therapy

Just as its name suggests, these are sessions held by a single specialist for multiple participants. These will generally last for a certain number of weeks and can focus on a myriad of topics from anger management to grieving. Due to the group aspect, these sessions tend to be lower in cost to traditional one-on-one therapy. Find a group therapy near you here.

Support Groups

These differ in that no ‘expert’ is leading the session. These tend to be free, only taking donations participants are able to give. There is no shortage of types of support groups. The most popular may be Alcoholics Anonymous, but any number of issues can be the topic of a support group. Find a support group for your needs here.
